Elevator Association of Florida Meeting Minutes

**8:30 call to order by Tom Waardenburg.
Review of minutes from July 05 meeting on overhead screen.
Introductions of members and visitors– 41 members and guests were
present. Motion to adopt minutes by Bill Snyder second by Bill
Strawn.
**8:35 Introduction of Rudy of
Focus C.M.C. to review electronic inspection reporting
products. Specializing in software for inspections, licensing and plans
review. Reviewed the MIDAS inspection program, which includes PDA to PC
communication. Discussed was the possibility of eliminating field
paperwork and the capability of transferring signatures from the PDA to
the final printed document/report. Three different modules were also
discussed which included "Solo", "Companion", "Generation". Brian Blaylock
was introduced to demonstrate PDA software application. Good demonstration
of generating an inspection report with a PDA. Ended at 9:10am.
**9:10 Tim Newton delivered the treasurers report
membership dues were addressed. Motion to accept the treasurer’s report by
Bill Strawn, Bill Snyder seconded.
**9:12 introduction of guest speaker Mary Frandsen with
OTB
Architectural Elements. OTB provides finishes for elevator
cabs, entrances and doors. These include faux stone and metal finishes.
Good presentation, also provided was a mobile showroom in the parking lot
for those attending to visit. Discussion ended after questions at 9:25.
**9:25 announced break which included time for
members to visit mobile vehicle display in parking lot by OTB
Architectural Elements.
**09:57 Sandy Tank of Wurtec, Inc. was introduced
to discuss the elevator products that they provide. Included is the Mfr of
specialty tooling for efficiency (OEM & Wurtec exclusive), name brand
products and others. Wurtec provides and on-line product catalog (www.Wurtec.com).

**10:23 Tim Newton was introduced to discuss
Elevator Safety Technical Advisory Council
"ESTAC" committee meetings. The ESTAC committee has been given the job of
selecting the "fire key" for the seven (7) different fire districts in
Florida. No decision has been made yet but two companies are being
considered as key and switch providers. Also Mr. Newton stated that on Oct
01, 2005 all elevator machine rooms must have a set of wiring diagrams and
a maintenance log.
ASME A17.1-2000 8.6.5.8 - Safety Bulkhead requirements for
hydraulic cylinders was discussed. The 2000 Edition requires hydraulic
cylinders installed below ground shall conform to 3.18.3.4, or the car
shall be provided with safeties conforming to 3.17.1 and guide rails,
guide rail supports, and fastenings conforming to 3.23.1. (This has the
violation code of H503G on the new state elevator inspection reports).
**10:42 Tom Waardenburg began discussion of old
business. Announced Bill Snyder had been elected to the
NAESA board of
directors. Also the NAESA Eastern Region Atlanta Workshop in November was
announced for interested parties. Bill Snyder will be a guest speaker at
the workshop. Also reviewed, was the new EAOF web site under construction.
Motion by Tim Newton to publish web site immediately seconded by Bill
Strawn and all agreed.
**10:55 New business discussion was opened
by talking about the
Bureau of Elevator Safety attendance at EAOF
meetings. Bob Selzc made a motion that a letter be sent to the State of
Florida from the EAOF Board of Directors requesting a representative from
the Bureau and a monitor be present at all EAOF meetings. The motion was
seconded by Ted Baranowski. Jeanne Martin announced A17 and A18 committee
meeting will be held on 09 Jan 06 prior to the next EAOF meeting in
Clearwater.
**11:10 Motion to adjourn made by Bill Strawn and
seconded by Bob Selzc. Meeting adjourned.
